My campaign platform for the Hemet Unified School District Trustee Area 7 is built on five core pillars to ensure Hemet Unified School District provides the highest quality education and support for our students, teachers, and community.
1. Leadership
As a 32-year public service executive with a doctorate in public administration, I view school district management through the lens of structural solutions, fiscal stewardship, and collaborative governance. Our mountain, rural, and suburban communities face unique geographic and academic challenges that cannot be solved with "one-size-fits-all” school policies. My priorities focus on mountain, rural, and suburban equity - supporting our frontline staff and ensuring that our tax dollars directly enhance the classroom experience for all families.
2. Academic Excellence
Our teachers and school staff work tirelessly every day, yet current state metrics indicate a systemic challenge: 65.6% of HUSD students are working to meet English standards, and 81.79% are working to meet Math standards. To drive meaningful academic recovery, we must ensure our funding models directly impact our local mountain and desert classrooms rather than getting swallowed up by centralized administrative overhead.

Protecting Our Fair Share: I will advocate for a comprehensive audit of the district’s Supplemental and Concentration funds to ensure our mountain, rural, and suburban schools receive their proportional share of funding.

Site-Based Support Specialists: I support redirecting overhead back into permanent, face-to-face reading interventionists and math tutors stationed directly at our mountain and rural campuses so families do not have to travel down the mountain for remedial assistance.

Early Intervention: By implementing robust, preventative reading and math screening in early grades, we can empower our classroom teachers with the tools they need to close learning gaps early.
3. Safety & Transportation
The massive geographic footprint of Trustee Area 7 requires a highly resilient, modern transit network. Transporting our children across the winding highway corridors demands exceptional operational coordination, reasonable workloads, and an absolute commitment to transit safety over treacherous terrain.

The Joint Labor-Management Safety Panel: I propose establishing a collaborative panel composed of equal parts CSEA Chapter 104 transportation personnel and district managers, guided by neutral public safety experts.

Mountain Route Risk Profiling: This panel will analyze the distinct physical stress metrics of our mountain roads—including winter weather variables, high-altitude exposure, seasonal road closures, and split-shift demands—to establish balanced routing schedules.

Proactive Scheduling Guardrails: By integrating automated logs with manual tracking, the panel will create clear operational boundaries to eliminate driver fatigue, ensuring that the operators driving our winding routes are fully rested and supported.
4. Budget Accountability
Responsible bond stewardship protects our community’s long-term investments. As the district manages the remaining Measure X bond, the Governing Board must balance centralized modernization with the urgent, specific facility pressures faced by remote mountain and rural campuses.

Mountain, Rural, and Suburban Campus Infrastructure Equity: I will advocate for proportionate infrastructure updates specifically for Area 7 sites, prioritizing funding for crucial winter heating subsidies, modern playground layouts, off-grid utility resilience, and mountain campus technology upgrades.

Strict Oversight Integration: By working closely alongside the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee, we will guarantee that facilities money remains structurally separate from operational budgets, maximizing construction efficiency.
5. Transparent Decision-Making
Strong schools are built on open communication between the district and the communities it serves. For families and concerned taxpayers, traveling down the mountain for board meetings in Hemet presents a physical barrier to civic participation.

The 48-Hour Advanced Packet Rule: I will introduce a governance policy requiring all board meeting documentation, motions, and financial packets to be fully accessible online 48 hours prior to public votes, eliminating surprise or un-vetted modifications.

Rotating Satellite Board Workshops: I will propose scheduling regular, official board workshops and community forums directly within Area 7 community spaces, bringing the legislative process straight to our mountain and rural communities.
